Frequently Asked Questions

We've gathered some FAQs with hopefully all you need to know before your cat's holiday at Pippins.

If you don't see the answer to a question you are looking for, feel free to get in touch and send us your own question.

When can I drop my cat off at Pippins?

Any time during our opening hours, which are: 10 am to 12 midday and 4pm to 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday. We are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays. We can’t allow pick-ups or drop-offs outside of these hours for insurance reasons.

What will my cats eat while they stay with you?

We only supply top quality brands such as Whiskers and Felix wet food and our dry food collection includes James Wellbeloved and Royal Canin. Or if you’d rather your cat sticks to their own diet, that’s perfectly fine… Please just ensure you bring enough for the duration of their holiday with us.

My cat needs medication – are you able to give this to them?

Of course. We’re well-versed at administering medication – be that oral tablets, sprays, inhalers for asthmatic cats and so on.

Do you look after kittens?

Yes. We take kittens from three and a half months upwards, but they must have had both parts of their vaccination course. We don't accept unneutered male cats over seven months old.

Is there anything I need to do before my cat’s stay at Pippins?

Please ensure their flea and worming treatments are up to date. If your cat is an outdoor cat, ensure plenty of time to get them in the carrier, ready for their stay. You’d be amazed at how many cats stay out past their bedtime if they know the carrier’s about!

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring your cat in a secure cat carrier. Cats tend to appreciate the scent of home to help them feel settled, so please feel free to bring their own bedding or a towel. We also ask that you bring any food if they have specific dietary requirements, as well as any medication and ensure there’s enough for the duration of their stay. Please also bring your cat’s up to date vaccination certificate as we will need to take a copy: they must have had a vaccine for flu and enteritis.

How can I pay for my cat’s stay and is there a minimum fee?

Payment is made in full on arrival and we accept debit card payments or you can pay by cash for which you will receive a 5% discount. Please note, we do not accept credit cards or cheques. Stays are charged per day, including the day you drop your cat off to us and the day you pick up. There is a minimum fee of £28 per stay.

What if my cat gets ill during their stay?

We closely monitor the health of all our guests and if we see they aren’t very well, we will, with your permission, take them to the vets for treatment. While staying at Pippins for up to 21 days, your cat is insured by Pet Plan 3-star insurance. If your cat has a pre-existing medical condition, you will be asked to sign a waiver which requires you to pay for treatment on your return as such conditions will not be covered by our insurance.

Do you have an official licence?

Yes – we are licenced by South Hams District Council and have been awarded a five-star rating which is the highest rating available.

Will I receive an update on how my cat’s doing during their stay?

We look after a lot of guests so it’s not possible for us to keep owners constantly updated. We try our best to keep our Facebook feed up to date so keep an eye on that. And rest assured, if there was something wrong with your cat, you’ll be the first to know!

How do the cats stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter?

In the summer, we put up shades in each of the homes to ensure your cat keeps as cool as a cucumber. And in the colder months, the cats keep toasty thanks to heat pads in each of their bedding and heating installed in the homes.

Can I visit Pippins to check out the homes before I book?

Yes of course, please feel free to visit us any time during our opening hours.

How far in advance do I need to book?

If you’re looking to be away during peak holiday seasons such as summer / half terms or Christmas, we advise you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. To give you an idea, by May, we’re usually booked up for Christmas!

What if I need to cancel my booking?

That’s fine, we just ask you let us know so we can offer up your cat’s accommodation to another feline friend.

Do you have parking?

Yes, we have a small car park which can get busy at times, so please bear with us.

Where to find us
